Air Movers: An Essential Mitigation Resource
1/28/2021 (Permalink)
Air movers (also known as “floor drying fans”, “commercial blower fans” and “industrial air blowers”) are used in water damage restoration to enhance evaporation at the surface level and reduce drying time. This type of equipment introduces airflow at the surface level and replaces the highly saturated air with drier air to enhance evaporation. Your SERVPRO of Carleton/Maybee technical experts have been specifically trained on the science of drying to know how many air movers they will need and how to position them to create airflow across all wet surfaces. In some cases, when the lower portion of multiple walls are wet, involving wet drywall behind baseboards, enough air movers are positioned to create a vortex of circular airflow around the walls. Our SERVPRO technicians operate the air movers in several different positions, offering flexibility in how to direct the airflow with the best possible outcome.
Air movers are an essential tool when mitigation services are needed due to water damage or restoring flood or disaster damage. Some advantages of drying a building with the use of air movers are as follows:
- Low power draw
- High velocity, making them ideal for cooling and ventilation purposes
- Reduces water damage dry out time to carpets and floors, as well as wall cavities behind drywall
- Dries concrete and paint
- Removing fumes or gases from a workspace
